Scenthound: Prioritizing Dog Wellness through Franchising
Tim and Jessica Vogel, co-founders of Scenthound, joined the Emerging Franchise Brands podcast to discuss how their innovative franchise is transforming the pet care industry. Focused on routine hygiene and wellness for dogs, Scenthound is built around the essential health needs of all breeds, emphasizing the importance of preventive care. The Vogels’ journey began with a traditional grooming business, but an “aha moment” led them to reimagine pet care. They realized that while not all dogs need regular haircuts, every dog benefits from routine hygiene—care that can lead to a longer, healthier life.
Founded in 2015, Scenthound grew out of the Vogels’ desire to meet dogs’ core wellness needs. The brand’s name—an acronym for Skin, Coat, Ears, Nails, and Teeth—reflects its holistic approach. Through their membership-based model, pet parents receive a “report card” on these health metrics after each visit, allowing them to track their dog’s well-being over time.
Scenthound has quickly become a powerhouse in the franchising world, with 108 open locations and an additional 172 in development. The Vogels credit this rapid expansion to their investment in brand consistency, scalable systems, and a values-driven approach to franchising. They believe the key to their success lies in recruiting franchisees who share their passion for pet health and wellness. With a dedicated team and a focus on innovation, Scenthound is not only redefining dog care but also setting a high standard for franchise growth in the pet industry.
