Craft Loft: Jen Gouldstone on Franchising Hands-On Creativity

Calendar Icon January 15, 2026

In this episode of Emerging Franchise Brands, host Frank Fiume and co-host Drew Alfano chat with Jen Gouldstone, founder of Craft Loft, a creative studio franchise that brings hands-on crafting experiences to communities with a welcoming, walk-in format.

Based in the Boston area, Jen started Craft Loft after a career in tech, including roles at Google and TripAdvisor. The idea came to life during the pandemic, when Jen was running remote plant care and team-building workshops. As customers repeatedly asked if she had a physical location, she realized there was a need for a space that made creativity simple, social, and accessible.

Craft Loft offers a mix of walk-in projects and guided workshops, with activities like resin art, succulent terrariums, candle making, basket weaving, fresh floral arranging, and even rug tufting. Designed for beginner adults and families, the concept removes barriers like sourcing supplies, setting up at home, or cleaning up afterward—so guests can just show up and enjoy the experience.

Franchisees don’t need to be artists. Instead, they’re trained on core activities, supported with digital guides and videos, and encouraged to build a community-focused environment. Startup costs begin at $250K with footprints around 2,500 sq. ft., ideally located in high-traffic or village-style retail areas.

As people seek off-screen hobbies, stress relief, and local connection, Craft Loft is positioned to scale nationwide—bringing creativity, joy, and handcrafted memories to communities across the U.S.
